Where to play competitively in the city: dates, venues, what entry costs, and what to expect the first time you enter one. We keep this list because we run tournaments here ourselves, and a player who can't find one this month is a player lost to the sport.
Mumbai Pickleball Cup
A monthly league. Points carry across the season and the teams at the top qualify for the Champions Cup.
Where they are played
Mumbai's courts are spread out, and the western suburbs have the densest cluster of them. The Cup has run in two so far:
Entering your first tournament
- Do I need a rating or a club?
- No. Almost every open tournament in Mumbai, the Cup included, takes entries from anyone who turns up. There is no national rating you need first and no club membership to produce.
- Do I need a partner?
- Only for the doubles categories. If you don't have one, look for a tournament with a singles category (the Cup runs one) and enter on your own.
- What does it cost?
- Entry to a one-day open tournament in Mumbai generally runs in the hundreds to low thousands of rupees per entry. The Cup is ₹1,200 per entry early, ₹1,500 after the Early Bird date, and that one fee covers both players in a doubles pair.
- How many matches will I get?
- Check this before you pay. It is the difference between a good day and a wasted one. A straight knockout can send you home after a single loss. A league or group format guarantees you several; at the Cup it is 3 matches minimum before anyone is knocked out.
